Evidence of drug use has been found in three rooms of Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall at the University of Chittagong (CU) by the hall administration and the proctorial body.
According to the hall administration, during a raid conducted around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (October 23), a large quantity of marijuana, liquor, whisky, and cigarette remnants were seized from the rooms.
Sources from the hall administration said that drug use had been going on in these rooms for a long time, evading the eyes of the authorities. Among them, Room 108 of C-Block was allocated for the hall council, but five students had been staying there illegally. During the raid, bottles of liquor and whisky, marijuana, and a large number of cigarette butts were recovered from that room.
In another operation in Room 102 of the same block, two students were caught red-handed while taking drugs. The authorities also found various drugs, including liquor and marijuana, in that room. Additionally, evidence of drug use was found in Room 104, where four students were residing.
The hall provost, Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan, said, “After the recent clash between university students and locals, some students who had no place to stay came to me. I allowed them to stay temporarily in the hall council room. However, even after the allotted time ended, they did not vacate the room and even tore down the official notice. This afternoon, during the eviction drive, we directly found evidence of drug use in those rooms.”
Assistant Proctor Professor Dr. Korban Ali said, “We conducted the raid at the request of the hall provost. Various types of drug substances were found there. The students involved have been ordered to vacate their rooms.”
