A seminar and press conference were held at the Russian House in Dhaka to discuss higher education opportunities in Russian universities for Bangladeshi students under the Russian government quota.
The event, held on Thursday, 23 October, featured the introduction of Aleksandra A. Khlevnyar, the new director of Russian House.
The seminar was attended online by former students from leading Russian universities, over 100 local applicants, and Bangladeshi students currently studying in Russia. The Russian government’s scholarship program was explained in detail.
Aleksandra announced that for the 2026–27 academic year, the number of scholarships for Bangladeshi students has been increased to 200, up from just 65 five years ago. She said this expansion reflects Russia’s commitment to developing Bangladesh’s human resources and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in education and science.
She emphasized, “Our goal is to provide talented Bangladeshi students with opportunities to study at Russian universities so that they can contribute to Bangladesh’s development upon returning home.”
Interested applicants can apply online via https://education-in-russia.com from 15 September to 15 January. Required documents include a valid passport, educational certificates or diplomas, and the latest academic transcript. Shortlisted candidates will later need to submit a medical fitness certificate. Selection will be based on academic results, participation in Olympiads, and achievements in science, sports, or creative competitions. The selection committee will include representatives from Russian House, the Russian Embassy, and Russian universities.
Students can apply for a variety of programs, including vocational and technical courses, bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, and short-term professional development programs in fields such as IT, engineering, physics, chemistry, economics, law, agriculture, architecture, acting, dance, and music. The portal lists over 16,000 programs across more than 400 Russian universities.
Additionally, it was announced that from 27 October, a free Russian language course will begin at Russian House under the guidance of a trainer from St. Petersburg State University. Russian House in Dhaka will assist students with program selection, document preparation, and language training.
Aleksandra noted that this initiative is expected to deepen educational ties between Bangladesh and Russia and expand opportunities for Bangladeshi students to receive international standard education.
